Structural Overview

The post and bearer system is made from hot-dip galvanized steel and consists of 3 components.

    • Base plate spigot with 250mm x 250mm welded base.
    • Support post with 3600mm x 100mm welded top plate.
    • 100×50 RHS eaves beam for a sturdy truss base plate connection.

Detailed Component Overview

  • Galvanised steel posts 2.6m or 2.9m long, 100mm x 100mm x 3mm thick.
  • 2.6m posts are the same height as a General Purpose shipping container, providing ample headroom under the outer edges of the shelter. 2.9m posts for High Cube shipping containers.
  • Base plate upright connectors, 89mm x 89mm x 3mm thick square tube.
  • Base fittings consist of a 250mm x 250mm plate welded to the bottom, containing 4 x 18mm holes, allowing the base plate to be securely anchored to the foundation.

Eaves Rail and Top Plate

  • Running along the top of the posts is the galvanised steel eaves rail. 3 metre long sections, 100mm x 50mm x 2mm thick.
  • The eaves rail sits on top of the post, resting on a 360mm long top plate, which is welded to the top of the support post.
  • The eaves rail is securely screwed to the underside of the bearer via the pre-drilled holes.
  • Each top plate has 12 holes, 6 on each side. TEK screws are used to attach the top post plate to the eaves rail, forming a secure connection.

Roof Truss Connection

Once the eaves rails are connected to the posts, the dome shelter base rails and truss tube sleeve adapters can be connected.
Depending on the type of dome shelter, the truss sleeve tube plates can be welded into position or clamped onto the eaves rail using high-tensile 100mm U Bolts and top plate assembly.

Space-Saving Solutions

Post-mounted shelter designs are the perfect solution when ground space is limited, and shipping containers are not an option. For instance;

  1. Traditional container dome shelters are typically attached to the shipping containers via the inside edge, outside edge or a combination of both.
  2. Using a post set means the shelter is not constrained by the additional with of the containers, making maximum use of the undercover space.
  3. The choice of shelter widths provides the same undercover area underneath the dome if it were spaced between 2 shipping containers.
  4. This post-mounted solution is ideal for sites with limited space.

The 60ft x 40ft post-mounted shelter option provides the same undercover storage space as a two-container-mounted shelters, but with a reduced ground footprint. This makes it an ideal choice for work sites or commercial properties where space is limited.
